Welcome to New Zealand

I’ve been out of managed quarantine isolation for three days (at the time of writing).

We woke up at 4am on the day we left, 6am we left Auckland and we were back to our refuge in about eight hours. If you are not used to twisty turny winding roads, because you are used to a flat terrain you will feel queasy through this trip. Or at least this was my experience.

The first day was fairly quiet, and to be honest I can’t quite remember what we did, not much I don’t think. We had a walk around the neighborhood and then I made a peach cobbler for the first time and adored it. I didn’t tell Colin it was dairy free so that he would eat it, and sure enough he did like it.

We had decided to be cautious of what we were doing and when we were doing it. As we had not long been out of isolation, and I am still getting used to being around people without masks. It is a bit odd to me that people are not wearing them, and I’ve had to remember how to conduct myself in public again.

The second day we were more adventurous, going to a nearby town to have a gelato and a general wander. Both my partner and I managed to get our hair cut having booked that same morning. Then immediately after we went to the local restaurant for dinner. I had fish and chips, one of the only things on the menu that was dairy free.

Today has been a scorcher, and there is more fun yet to come.
